Big Fall Catch-Up: Features, Art Sales, Collections, and Comforts

It has been a minute since I gave a much-needed update! I have a lot of thoughts, and I’m going to lay them out for you here. I’m going to be covering my recent blog and magazine feature, my pop-ups, my new collections, and my hopes for all those reading this.

My Latest Features

I was featured in my first art magazine! Specifically in Issue #33 of Artistcloseup Contemporary Art Magazine that came out in September! Then, in late September, they also featured my interview in their blog.

Collections of Personal Comfort

I have been releasing a lot of new collections lately for the Fall season as a way of releasing some of my ideas that have come to me as the weather has begun to change. I notice that the collections have a connected theme of comfort for me, which makes sense for cozy season. I will show you a few pieces from each!

Spooky Season’s Critters Collection

Collection 1: Spooky Seasons’ Critters

The first new series was Spooky Seasons’ Critters, a collection of animals that I have loved while growing up. I used to check out library books of my favorite animals and read about them and print out photos of them on long rainy weekends to look at. I went through periods where I would be obsessed with a certain kind of animal, bats, tarantellas, cats, guppies, Devonian Period sharks, seahorses…you get the idea. I have always been curious, learning about unique creatures when I could. This part of me also inspired the name of Spiderfish Studios, which aims to celebrate the differences in abilities and strengths that can be found in each of us.

Collection 2: Fall Textures and Beyond

The Fall Textures and Beyond collection was made while processing the passing of a family member in September who was an artist. She sculpted geometric marble sculptures and loved bright colors. I find this collection feeling like her to me.

In addition, this was my first collection experimenting with raw, untreated canvas. I left a lot of the canvas showing to showcase the texture and natural colors. It grounds and softens the more vibrant, abstract images to create a nice balance.

A Balance of Sales and Rest

I’m also so happy to report that my collectors have been so supportive of my work, especially the last two months! I’m running so low on prints, ran out of one of my stickers, and have sold many of my originals. Not to mention that each new collection seems to do better than the last!

I really feel so lucky. It’s amazing how people look at what I make and decide to take it home and look at it every day. Every time, I love seeing who the piece goes home with.

My in-person art pop-ups have been a huge success, and I have had many recently. I enjoyed meeting everyone so much, and now I’m looking forward to taking things easy for a bit to read, paint, and drink all the matcha lattes I can handle. I’m excited to report that I now have a proper matcha mixing bowl and whisk, making my matcha drinks actually taste respectable now!

Collection 3: Elements

The Elements collection is my most luxurious offering yet. Abstract takes on earth, wind, water, and fire are the focus of this series, and it’s all about color, form, and texture. These 12x12 acrylic pieces are painted on raw canvas, and the acrylic ink bleeds in like watercolors, creating a softness not usually associated with the medium. These vibrant, calming, sculptural art pieces are incredibly elegant and sophisticated, with the authenticity of the raw canvas anchoring each one. It’s my favorite series yet and was so relaxing to make. The creation of each piece was highly intuitive, and the process felt like a calm meditation, bringing a lot of clarity for me in its simplicity.

Art and Comforts

Finally, I just wanted to end on a note, speaking from the heart on creating thoughtfully designed spaces and choosing the right art for your home. Choosing art is a very personal process. It takes careful consideration of what will bring you joy, introspection, energy, inspiration, or whatever it is you are hoping to feel in your space. Art can make you feel so many different things. I personally am drawn to a mix of calm and whimsy.

Make your space feel like you, and let it nudge you into the headspace you wish to be in. Art is there to enrich our lives, so choose some for your spaces and let them work their magic.
